Nike x Ben & Jerry’s “Chunky Dunky”

I don’t know about you, but judging by the name of this sneaker–it sounds absolutely horrendous! That’s right though, Nike has teamed up with the beloved Vermont ice cream brand, Ben & Jerry’s to produce a Nike SB Dunk sneaker to represent the Ben & Jerry’s brand. I know I previously stated in the “Upcoming Drops” that I purposely listed the fashion drops that I am interested in. I am not interested in this shoe for myself, but for the purpose of reselling and seeing how popular this shoe actually is. Being a follower of various sneaker Instagram accounts, this shoe has very little backlash and people gravitate towards it either for nostalgia of consuming Ben & Jerry’s ice cream as a kid, or because it is beyond wacky and different than any other shoe on the market–possibly beating out the Kyrie Spongebob sneaker collection.

These shoes have a faux fuzz on it to resemble the dairy cow that produces the milk for Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, blue and green splotches to represent the “background” of their ice cream cartons with the sky and grass; tie dye interior to show their hippie roots, and a yellow, dripping Nike logo to represent ice cream melting off the sneaker. These shoes are undoubtedly a statement piece, but serve as both a skating shoe, and a unique fashion shoe. I can already picture many “hype beasts” gravitating towards this shoe, making a variety of wacky outfits to go with this sneaker. Already, people are getting excited for its drop date on May 23 (also my birthday) and are excited to get their hands on a shoe that’s truly never been done before. I could already imagine celebrities like 6ix9ine or even Lil Pump wanting to rock these wild, rainbow tie-dye and cow sneakers–whether they’re continuing to make fashion statements or really show love to Ben & Jerry’s ice cream.

All in all, I do applaud Nike for really striving to do something different with shoes, as the “ordinary” white or black sneaker isn’t for everyone. However, going forward–I hope they stop doing these very odd, whimsical designs as these probably won’t be worn out that much by whoever decides to buy them. I hope Nike continues to find other ways of being “different” without being too impractical.
