Predicted Trends for Spring 2020

Paying close attention to fashion both through my peers and social media, I have the tendency to scope out up-and-coming trends for every season. Last summer, I predicted that the hottest color of the season would be lavender, or light purple. Much to my surprise (but not really), I saw light purple and lavender shades flying off the clothing racks in the form of shorts, t-shirts, tank tops, and skirts. This time, I think I nailed the upcoming trends amidst the coronavirus keeping folks inside.

The first trend I am going to predict is tie-dye! That’s right. We’re all about the bright pops of color, through the sunburst pattern, or the iconic twist and tie. I used to always be in awe when walking past the tie dye stands in my hometown in Berkeley, CA–so I’m excited to finally have an excuse to stop by and pick up a t-shirt of my own. Not to mention, we can expect to see tie-dye on hats, bandanas, sweatshirts, and even sweatpants–the latest addition to the tie-dye family.

The second trend that I’m going to predict for Spring 2020 is the usage of neon or highlighter yellow! That’s right. We’re truly making a comeback from the 80’s and bringing out the brightest, happiest shades of colors. Although most people struggle to pull off such funky colors, it will still be fun to step out (when the coronavirus craziness dies down) and rock a bright neon tank top or flip flops to any colorless outfit.

The third trend I’m going to predict is the usage of hair scrunchies for pops of color. This Spring really emphasizes on bright, showy colors and through something as simple as a hair scrunchy–it can truly put together an outfit. For instance, an all black-outfit with a red or pink scrunchy! This accessory serves the purpose of keeping hair up, but also happens to look very cute and allows us to embrace a youthful look.

The last trend I’m going to mention will be the usage of tracksuit sets. This doesn’t mean the velour tracksuits by Juicy Couture–but the matching sweatpants and sweatshirts. The iconic hype brand Supreme has already released some sets that are meant to be “matchy-matchy” and bring that mixture between streetwear and comfort into one.

All in all, I am very excited to see if my predictions come to life and see how people will rock these different styles and use it to boost their confidence and individuality. Although it sounds redundant to talk about “popular trends” and use the word “individuality”, I firmly believe that the individuality will truly show in their personality and how they choose to style it after purchasing the clothes.
