Throughout high school, people called me our high school’s very own “Fashion Queen”. People were well aware of my passion for it, and they would always ask questions along the lines of: “Mallory, why do you love fashion so much?” or “Why does fashion interest you?” To which I always responded, “Clothes are considered a necessity. If given the option to make them fun and aesthetically pleasing, why would you not go for it?”
Although I am currently a college student who now understands the comfort of sweatpants and hoodies–I still have an immense appreciation for aesthetically-pleasing outfits. When I’m not attending class, I do dress up for my Sales Associate job at Nordstrom–and that is where the fun begins! I get to dress up in all the trench coats, scarves, dresses, boots, baubles, and dress pants–to assert my expertise in fashion and to feel ready to tackle the day.
I mainly love fashion because it boosts confidence. Being well-dressed helps with first impressions! Not to mention, fashion can really showcase one’s personality. For instance, the Spice Girls used fashion as a way to showcase their diverse personalities–and I too, hope that my sense of fashion can act as a way to showcase my personality. As Rachel Zoe said, “Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak.” I wholeheartedly agree this quote, as I grew up shy and latched onto fashion as a way to express myself. From here, fashion helped me gain enough confidence to put myself out there to make friends. To this day, I am friends with the same people from high school–and some of our friendships started out with something as simple as them complimenting my skirt, or asking where I bought my necklace. I thank fashion for being something that gave me the confidence to put myself out there, and for being something that makes me different from others. Fashion is more than just clothes to me– as I believe it can capture your personality and tell a story about you.
